| | Photography - Sevruguin, Antoin. Ten original vintage photographs (17x 24 cm.) of scenes of the life in Teheran (1848 - 1896). Four amazing pictures of the execution by public hanging of Mirza Reza Kirnani, murderer of the persian Shah Naser al Din (August 12, 1896). (only two others in the Myron Bement Smith collection (Smithsonian) who carries the largest collection of photographs by Sevruguin). Other pictures show the funeral of the German ambassador, the hippodrome at Teheran, the Avenue Lalazar, the interior of a ranch in Beharestan, two ethnographic portraits, one of a Nomade woman and one of a Dervich. Two of the execution pictures have the famous photographer's purple stamp on the front € 5500
Very special serie of photographs, especially the one on which we see Sevruguin's shadow as he's busy taking his picture of the hangman leaving the scene while the crowd is still watching the hanging corpse. For two reasons the own prints of this creative photographer are hardly ever on the market: in the beginning of the 20th Century most of them were destroyed during political clashes and the ones rescued were gathered in public collections (esp. the one mentioned above)
