A.
Asher & Co. B.V.
was founded
in 1830 in Berlin by
Adolph Asher,
among other things bookseller to
Alexander von Humboldt, Darwin, and
other eminent nineteenth-century
scientists. In 1933 the company
was forced to leave Berlin and
relocated in Amsterdam. From 1946
onwards the company has issued
numerous catalogues in the fields of
natural history, science and travel
and
voyages. After the retirement of
Nico Israel in 1995, the new owner
moved the company to its present
location in IJmuiden, about twenty
kilometres west of Amsterdam, where
it now operates under the name of
ASHER Rare Books.
